Angel Reese Scoreless Half: Atlanta Dream Game 1 Loss [Confirmed]

Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese suffered a scoreless second half during her WNBA Finals debut on October 3, 2026, leading to a crushing 68-64 Game 1 defeat against the Golden State Valkyries despite securing an early double-double. According to verified reports from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, Reese dominated early rim protection and glass cleaning to rack up 11 points and 12 rebounds before halftime. However, Golden State head coach Natalie Nakase overhauled defensive matchups during the intermission, doubling the post whenever Reese caught possession below the free-throw line. Atlanta’s offense stalled completely, shooting just 28% from the field across the final twenty minutes. Fans quickly flooded social platforms, labeling the collapse a frustrating disappointment following earlier momentum highlighted in the [Angel Reese Elbow Controversy: WNBA Finals Game 1 [Confirmed]](/news/angel-reese-gabby-williams-elbow-controversy) breakdown. Reese missed all six of her second-half attempts, including two critical contested layups in the final two minutes. Dream head coach Tanisha Wright defended her star forward in the post-game press conference, emphasizing that perimeter ball movement failed to generate high-percentage looks against Valkyries' aggressive collapse. The defeat leaves Atlanta trailing 0-1 in the best-of-five championship series.
