AMD Ryzen 9 Scam: Delidded Chip Swapped on Old Intel [Confirmed]

According to verified reports from PC Gamer, a buyer on Amazon received a heavily tampered $889 AMD processor where scammers successfully delidded the flagship chip, transplanted it onto an old Intel motherboard component, and slipped past standard warehouse return inspections. The disturbing case surfaced when a Reddit user shared images highlighting glaring physical discrepancies, including an altered pin layout and missing surface-mount device capacitors beneath the integrated heat spreader. This sophisticated switch highlights critical vulnerabilities in retail return processing for high-performance PC hardware components. Industry analysts warn that inadequate warehouse inspection protocols allow malicious actors to exploit customer-return workflows, reselling counterfeit or gutted hardware as brand-new inventory to unsuspecting builders. As high-end gaming components continue to command premium pricing, major e-commerce platforms face mounting pressure to overhaul their verification procedures before shipping expensive silicon to consumers.
