Amazon Carrie Series: Mike Flanagan Review [Update 2026]

According to verified reports from Kotaku, showrunner Mike Flanagan's eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie debuted on Amazon Prime in October 2026, delivering a masterclass in psychological horror that subverts audience expectations while retaining intense emotional gravity. Critic John Walker highlighted that while King adaptations often stumble under derivative tropes, Flanagan's version elevates the narrative by exploring the agonizing emotional dynamic between Carrie White and her fanatical mother Margaret. Rather than replaying predictable beats, the series acknowledges modern horror literacy immediately, creating genuine tension through fresh narrative perspectives and character depth. While narrative overhauls often spark skepticism in gaming and film—much like the character changes seen in the [Exodus Redesign: Protagonist Jun Aslan Overhauled [Confirmed]](/news/exodus-protagonist-redesign-jun-aslan-update)—Flanagan earns viewer trust across the initial seven episodes. The only significant criticism centers on the eighth and final episode, which stumbles slightly during the iconic prom sequence by rushing key resolution threads. Despite this minor misstep, Kotaku confirmed the series stands as one of the definitive Stephen King adaptations of the decade.
