AJ Brown Bench Call: Dave Portnoy Slams Patriots Return [Update]

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy demanded the New England Patriots immediately bench wide receiver AJ Brown on Sunday after an underwhelming performance against their conference rivals, citing zero burst and costly dropped passes following a four-week absence caused by a severe ankle injury. According to verified reports from Sportskeeda Esports & BGMI, Brown rejoined the active roster after missing four weeks from an ankle injury sustained in the season opener against Seattle. However, his comeback quickly unraveled into widespread fan and analyst frustration. Portnoy termed the outing 'next level awful WR play' on social media, criticizing the coaching staff for forcing an unprepared starter into critical high-leverage downs. The offensive cadence stalled repeatedly whenever targets were funneled his direction, mirroring the recovery complications highlighted in the [Brian Thomas Jr. Injury [Confirmed]: Doctor Forecasts Exit](/news/brian-thomas-jr-jaguars-injury-update) analysis. Film study revealed severe limitations in Brown's planting foot, eliminating his trademark yards-after-catch threat and forcing the quarterback into rushed progression reads. With playoff margins shrinking rapidly, analysts warn that rushing star perimeter weapons back into live competition without full snap-count restrictions damages team efficiency and risks long-term roster stability.
