What Is the MW4 Campaign Ending?

The MW4 campaign tells two stories at once. One follows Captain Price and Task Force 141 as they hunt the mastermind behind the war, a villain known as the Archer. The other follows Pvt. Park and the South Korean squad Sierra-1 as they fight the invasion on the Korean Peninsula. The campaign jumps between the two until the final missions, where both storylines reach their ending in turn. Knowing this split helps the ending make sense, because each half closes on its own terms before the after-credits scene ties them together. Our guide on free mythic weapons in Call of Duty covers a different side of the series.

The Korea half ends in the mission called Decapitation, an unsanctioned raid on the North Korean presidential palace. Park and Sierra-1 go in with one goal: to end the coup leader Ri, who took power with the Archer's backing. The squad fights through the palace and kills Ri, closing the invasion storyline. Park and the surviving members of Sierra-1 make it out, but the victory is costly, and the mission makes clear that stopping one leader does not undo the war that already happened.

The final mission, Greater Good, follows Price after his capture by the Archer, who is taking him across the border with a stolen weapon. Ghost tracks the convoy down and crashes it, giving Price a chance to escape, though Price is already badly wounded. The two men fight hand to hand on a frozen lake, and Price kills the Archer with a knife. His wounds catch up with him, and he dies with Ghost beside him, his last words a warning to hold the line. Ghost closes his eyes, takes the weapon case, and walks away across the ice.

After the credits, Kate Laswell sits at a laptop and deletes the Task Force 141 files one by one, including those of Gaz, Ghost, and Price, officially disbanding the unit. Ghost is the only original member of Task Force 141 still alive, while Laswell steps back from the role she has held since the reboot began. She then meets an unnamed successor and welcomes her to the Watcher Program, saying operations are moving into the DMZ. The ending closes Price's arc and the rebooted Modern Warfare story, and hands the series to a new cast and a new setting. For another Call of Duty guide, see our free legendary skins guide.
